Mobile check deposit FAQs

How do I mobile deposit a check?

Before making a mobile check deposit, you’ll need to have your Online Banking and Desert Financial app set up.

  1. Log in to the app and choose “Deposit Check” from the menu at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Enter information about your deposit, including the exact deposit amount and designated account for the deposit. After that, you’ll need to endorse the check with your signature. It’s also a good idea to write, “For mobile deposit only” under your name in the endorsement area.
  3. The app will ask you to capture an image of both the front and back of the check. Place the check on a clear, dark background. Make sure the entire check is in the frame. As soon as the check is positioned correctly, snap a picture. You’ll then be directed to flip the check over and do the same for the back.
  4. You’ll be asked to confirm the deposit amount. Look twice to make sure the amount is correct, especially if it’s handwritten on the check. Once you’ve verified the amount, the check will be set for deposit into your account.

What else do I need to know about mobile check deposit?

  • The funds you deposit may not be immediately available. Typically, most funds are available within about 15 minutes of mobile deposit, but there could be a longer review time if you make your deposit after normal banking hours.
  • A check that is deposited remotely is not guaranteed to clear. Like any check, it can be rejected a few days after it’s deposited.
  • For security reasons, the image of the check will not be stored on your phone.
  • It’s best to hold on to the paper check until you can be sure that the deposit went through. After that time, you may opt to shred the check for safety or place it in a secure file until you are comfortable shredding it.

Why did my mobile check deposit get rejected?

Here are some common reasons for your deposit being rejected:

  • The check lacks an endorsement (signature).
  • There are multiple payees listed on the check.
  • The images are either unclear or too dark.
  • The amounts on the check do not correspond.
  • The check has already been deposited previously (duplicate deposit).
  • The check is in damaged or torn condition.
