Mentor programs help kids succeed

You could change the life of an at-risk child — and change your own life as well! Learn more about two of the mentoring programs we support, and see how you could volunteer or donate.

Future for Kids

As kids head back to school this month, many students are faced with new and escalating challenges – peer pressure, academic performance, social skills, emotional issues, and more. Future for Kids creates opportunities for children to grow and succeed by exploring ethics, nutrition and physical fitness and by participating in learning activities through their highly successful “Discover Your Future” program. Volunteers work with small groups of children in this weekly after-school program.

If you can’t commit to volunteering every week, you can support and mentor kids by volunteering at one of the three sports camps offered by Future for Kids. Visit their events page to learn more about upcoming programs and fundraisers.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona

Did you know that there are 300 Valley children waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister? Children can sometimes wait up to a year to be matched, and there is a significant need for volunteers (especially Big Brothers) in Central and South Phoenix, as well as in the West Valley.

In addition to their traditional program, BBBS of Central Arizona also has opportunities to be matched with a child through their site-based program. Volunteers are paired with a student and meet up regularly during the child’s lunch hour at school. Mentors spend time with the child playing games, helping with homework, talking, and playing on the playground.

You can also help this organization by donating, participating as a volunteer, or helping to raise funds to support their programs. Visit BBBS of Central Arizona to learn more.
