Meet Our 2017 Love My Home Winner

When April Tuzon and her husband moved into their Goodyear home in 2016, they knew that it was a fixer-upper. The pair were prepared to tackle a laundry list of do-it-yourself projects, believing that all good things take time. But their renovation timeline went from years to months when April learned that she’d won Desert Financial’s 2017 Love My Home Sweepstakes. “I had tears running down my face and my heart was racing,” she says. “I was in complete and utter disbelief.” When her exciting phone call from us ended, April told her coworkers that she’d just won $75,000, and then she called her husband at work to break the big news.

While the couple had already laid new tile and painted their kitchen cabinets country red, there were still plenty of projects left for them to tackle. With her Grand Prize winnings, April was able to cross the following off of her family’s to-do list:

  • Baseboards from Heritage Crown & Millworks
  • Samsung appliances from Best Buy
  • Window shutters from Home Depot
  • Electrical, plumbing and water service/repairs
  • Tuft & Needle mattress and pillows
  • New bedframe and nightstands
  • Trendy barn door
  • Two TVs and sound bars
  • Kitchen island and matching hutch

The biggest change April made to their home was installing an inground pool in the backyard. With the help of Dolphin Pools, the Tuzon family soon had a place to cool off in the sweltering Phoenix heat. “Since our pool was finished [at the] end of October, we had a Polar Plunge for all of our friends and family to come and jump in with us,” April says. “We bought a bunch of floaties, barbequed and made it a family affair.” With her Love My Home Sweepstakes winnings, April was able to make her family’s dream of a comfortable and updated home come true.
