After decades of serving teachers as Desert Financial Credit Union, we know that strong communities are built by citizens who have received a good education. For this reason, supporting schools, teachers, and students has always been — and always will be — an essential part of giving back to our community.
And it doesn’t stop there. Every year, we continue to step up our efforts: we raise more awareness, gather more funds, and give more back. That’s our pledge to education.
The AEF helps strengthen public education in Arizona with high-quality programs and by celebrating excellence. We are grateful to be able to support this organization and their initiatives, like the Arizona Teacher of the Year Program.
We are happy to gather school supplies in our annual drive. After more than 20 years, we’ve helped approximately 8,000 students get the tools they need to succeed. We’ve also recently added an annual book drive!
Since 2003, the Desert Financial Community Scholarship program has given deserving Arizona students more than $500,000 to attend in-state colleges. Students are selected by their grades, essays, and — most important — their community service.
With this special program, children can attend school while receiving medical care at Phoenix Children’s Hospital, giving them a greater sense of routine and normalcy. We are honored to be the primary sponsor of 1 Darn Cool School since 1997, having contributed over $5.5 million.
We are proud to be able to share our financial expertise with teens and adults in our community. Over 155,000 people have participated in our free workshops, and we provide financial literacy materials to local high schools with our The Money Side of Life™ program.
Operation School Bell, a program sponsored by the Assistance League of Phoenix, has provided thousands of students from low-income families with uniform clothes, shoes, socks, underwear and toiletry items. Desert Financial has been providing grants to this agency for almost a decade.
To thank the educators in our community, we purchase supplies for their classrooms and schools, host appreciation lunches and celebrate all the good that they do. To learn more about how we have given back, visit our Teacher Appreciation page.
