Molly was 12 years old — free, fearless and fun, testing her limits and pushing others to reach that next level. Then, in the middle of a soccer game, she felt it. First it was like a small, normal tweak that most athletes encounter on a regular basis. But even through ice, heat and rest, it didn’t get better.
She went to the doctor and was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer in her right tibia. Of course, Molly was devastated by the diagnosis, but the most painful part was realizing she’d be off the field, out of the classroom and away from her friends for a significant amount of time.
On top of surgery, Molly faced 24 rounds of chemo, a major shock to her mental health. Normally a social butterfly, she felt like her wings had been taken away. But Molly never quit. The support of doctors, teachers and 1 Darn Cool School donors gave her hope, and she looked forward to the little things, like watching movies, seeing dogs and anything that restored a sense of normalcy.
Now 18, Molly is a senior in high school, just about to graduate. She plays golf for her school team and is back outside, having fun and letting her light shine. She even has new hobbies like kayaking, baking and doing art projects. And her story — one of resilience and strength — is one you can help other kids experience by donating today.
