RECOGNIZING STUDENT ATHLETES MAKING AN IMPACT
Apply for the 2023 Arizona Breaking Barriers Student Athlete Scholarship, presented by Desert Financial Foundation.
Krysten Muir broke barriers in 2015-2016 as a kicker for the Marcos de Niza High School football team in Tempe. She leaves a legacy as the first female to score a point in an AIA state championship game and to set the state record for points scored by a female in the season. In January 2021, Krysten was in a car accident that caused partial paralysis. Desert Financial stepped in to support her and her family with a Random Act of Kindness.
Anthony Robles, one of the most accomplished wrestlers in Arizona State University® history, broke barriers when he won the NCAA individual championship in 2011 despite being born with only one leg. He capped his collegiate career with a 36-0 record. Anthony became a motivational speaker and commentator inspiring athletes everywhere to be unstoppable.
The Arizona Cardinals wanted to recognize Krysten and her outstanding contributions to the local sports community. In collaboration with Desert Financial Foundation, they created the Arizona Breaking Barriers Student Athlete Scholarship. Anthony Robles, a Desert Financial brand ambassador, also wanted to support unstoppable athletes and their higher education. The program will recognize determined, resilient and unstoppable student athletes inspired by these two remarkable athletes.
Are you a student athlete who’s breaking barriers? Do you know someone who is? Submit your nomination for the Arizona Breaking Barriers Student Athlete Scholarship!
